Welcome to Canada!! No. No. not yet. I would suggest you to do some homework before you come. Moving I know it is always hassle to move from one place to another but moving to Canada is almost like moving to another state in US. Everything is pretty much same but it is up to you to figure out the differences once you get here. Apartment It is expensive here in Canada compared to US but not that much. Building are old looking, No AC in most of the average looking apartment. Driver license You can simply change your driver license to G class license (full license) here if you have at least 2 years old regular license in US. Otherwise, it is pretty hard to get G license here. I recommend you to have this thing taken care before you move. Insurance Insurance cost is almost unimaginable due to lack of competitive market. It is almost double or sometimes triple the cost of US insurance. You should research a lot to get the best possible deal. You should consider yourself lucky if you manage to get $150.00/month for full coverage for your average looking vehicle. Bring all your insurance and driving records from US. Diversity You may see the diverse culture here. And, it is your duty to mingle with every kind people you meet. Few Spanish, lots of Chinese/Filipino/Koreans, good chunk of South Asians (Srilankans/Pakistanis/Indians). But, it all depends which part of Canada you want to move in. Work force is diverse too. Job This is one of the key factor. Getting low level factory job is 100% easy but finding right job which matches your qualification is 100% hard but not impossible. Too many people apply for few jobs and you need to have very good networking to get into the job market. Taxes Almost everything you buy has high tax (10-15)% associated with it. Except for few food items, almost everything is taxable Health coverage It is an alluring factor by which Canada has been able to attract so many skilled level immigrants. Unlike US, almost every health related expense is covered by government. However, there is no government plan for eye and dental coverage. You should apply for health card soon after you move into Canada. For detail health card information, please visit site Banks Like insurance company, there are limited banks in Canada. You may experience little toughness in their policy. Getting low interest credit card is almost unimaginable. the regular rate is 17-19 %. No free checking account in almost all of the financial institutions. Transportation It is very smooth and you can enjoy public transportation. You do not need to have car to survive. Please go to site for detail info on public transportation.
Well! I think I have tried my best to give you the synopsis. Please remember, I have referenced the Canadian government sites on various topic which is formal official website. If you still have some questions, please visit site . Thank you.
