INTRODUCTION
PROCESS WINNERS Notification FACTS |
STEP 1.
When DV-Lottery registration closes, applicants will be selected at random
by computer
among all qualified entries. The State Department may select about 80,000 or
more entries to ensure that all 50,000 available visas can be used. STEP 2. Those 80,000 or so selected winners will receive a notice by regular mail between May and July of the current year, and will be provided further instructions, including information on fees connected with immigration to the U.S. What they will win is a chance to apply for a DV-Lottery visa during fiscal year, which lasts from October 1, to September 30. Many of these 80,000 or so “winners” will drop out and decide not to apply for a visa. There is no penalty if a winner decides not to apply for a visa.
Each notice will have a case number or rank number which indicates the applicant’s place on the list of DV winners. Those who properly apply for visas will be scheduled for an interview with a U.S. consular abroad. The Kentucky Consular Center will send appointment letters four to six weeks before the scheduled interviews. Each year, beginning in October, visas will be issued to applicants according to their rank number, until all 50,000 DV visas have been issued. Those who are already in the U.S. and who are eligible to apply for green cards while physically present in the United States may do so and will be scheduled for an interview at an office of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. STEP 3. Visa processing through a U.S. consular overseas includes paying all fees for visa applications, obtaining medical clearance, and meeting all other criteria for admission to the United States. Once the consular is satisfied that the applicant qualifies as an immigrant, a permanent immigrant visa is placed in the passport (provided the rank number is current) and the DV immigrant is then truly a winner. NOTE: Getting first letter notifying you that you are the winner of DV Lottery does not guarantee visa, you should be aware that you do not dispose any property at home prior to obtaining visa. After you fill in the form, you should get second letter which tells you the complete process on how to apply for immigrant visa at your nearest US consular.
